Architecture and system review

In an Architecture and system review, I independently assess an existing application or proposed design. I cover maintainability, reliability, security, performance and cost, and separate urgent risks from improvements that can wait.

Is this right for you?

Who this is for, and who it isn't.

A good fit if

  • A system is becoming slow, unreliable or expensive to change
  • You are about to invest heavily in a system and want an independent check first
  • You are inheriting a system from another team or supplier

Probably not the right fit if

  • You need the problems fixed rather than assessed: combine the review with Software & AI development or Delivery guidance
  • Your concern is specifically AI output quality or AI cost: see AI quality and cost improvement
What you get

A practical result, not just a conversation.

01

Architecture and risk review

How the system is built and where the real risks are.

02

Reliability and maintainability findings

What makes the system fragile or slow to change.

03

Prioritised improvement backlog

Improvements ordered by risk and value, ready for your team to plan.

04

Next-quarter recommendations

A practical plan for what to do first.

How it works

Three stages, agreed up front.

Stage 1

Inspect

I review the code, infrastructure and documentation.

Stage 2

Talk to the team

I speak with the people who build and support the system.

Stage 3

Prioritise

You and I agree which risks need action now and which can wait.

Common questions

Before you get in touch.

How much does an architecture review cost?

Reviews are scoped after a short initial conversation and are usually fixed-price. The price depends on how many tools, projects or systems are in scope and how much information is already available, so you know the cost before work starts.

What access do you need?

Read access to the code repository, infrastructure configuration and any existing documentation, plus time with the people who maintain the system. Nothing needs to change during the review.

Will you tell us to rebuild everything?

Rarely. A full rewrite is expensive and risky; most systems improve more through focused changes to the parts causing the most problems.
